MirandaNet Fellowship Profiles (MirandaNet Archive - as of March 2015)
As well as being the director of Fantastict, I regularly lead training sessions, and still teach in a primary school for one day per week. Previously a local authority adviser, head of year and ICT subject leader I have a wealth of experience and expertise and am regularly invited to speak at training events and conferences - my recent speaking engagements have included the BETT show at Olympia, the Service Children's Education conference in Germany, the Dudley ICT conference and Staffordshire Performing Arts.
Much of my passion for ICT in education stems from my own largely uninspiring experience as a pupil which saw me disengaged and under-challenged. I believe that, used correctly, ICT has the potential to reach pupils who are currently under-achieving. I am lucky enough to be able to try some of my ideas out during my teaching and am constantly amazed by the results that can be produced by pupils when given the freedom to create.
Outside work, I am a very active musician and am particularly interested in the potential for ICT to unlock creativity in the areas of music and art. I believe that pupils' ICT experiences should be authentic wherever possible and am very interested in any projects which combine the world of school with the outside world.
