I have lived and taught students from different backgrounds in terms of intellect, socio-economic and cultural groups in different countries for last 25 years. After having taught Chemistry making use of ICT (where applicable) for 20 years in, the switch to Education (emphasis areas 'eLearning' and 'Science Education') seemed as a natural progression in my professional career. I see ICT as a means to transform pedagogies and practices at all levels of learning. I believe ICT has the potential to help achieve 'Education For All' provided it is implemented carefully otherwise it will only widen the digital divide.
I have developed and teach an online course 'Teaching Online: Pedagogy and Practices' at the University of the South Pacific and based in Suva, Fiji. My research interests include use of ICT in teaching and learning, Learning and cognition in ICT integrated Science lessons and Environmental Chemistry.
Some of the projects that I am involved with are OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) Fiji project, training pre-service teachers in the use of ICTs in teaching and learning, co-manage the 'Teachers Education Resource and eLearning Centre' (TEREC). We are trying to do a number of exciting things in TEREC right from developing a smart classroom to e-portal.
I have an 'elearning project for developing countries' which I would like to see eventuate in 5 years time. For now, I am happy doing what I do. I look forward to networking and learning from the members in this group!
