Personal Statement

Personal Statement

Until September 2012, I was an experienced Advanced Skills Teacher in Primary ICT before being appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Primary ICT and Music within the Faculty of Education, Health and Social Care at the University of Winchester.

I lecture on the BEd and PGCE teacher training degrees as well as the specialist ICT route for undergraduates where students explore the use of interactive technologies, teaching the 21st Century learner, mobile technology, media and the role of the ICT subject leader.

As well as an experienced primary school teacher, I supported and trained new subject leaders and head teachers around the UK in developing their use of ICT for teaching and learning. I am a keynote speaker and lectures internationally on ICT. During my teaching career I worked as a Learning Platform Consultant, Head of Year, senior teacher and a Lead ICT Teacher for Hampshire.

As well as an extremely varied week, I am also a freelance musician and conductor. I worked for Hampshire Music Service as part of their ‘Listen2Me’ scheme and for Portsmouth Music Service. I still currently teach children from Years 7-11 as a peripatetic woodwind teacher for Portsmouth Music Service.

I am very fortunate to be recognised as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) and I am one of 1700 educators across the world who advise Apple about the potential of iPads and iPod Touches devices in the classroom. I am a UK ActivAdvocate/advisor to Promethean and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

In his spare time, I work as a consultant, advisor and trainer in schools. I am a freelance writer and author on ICT working with companies such as Scholastic, Promethean, BrainPOP and Rising Stars.

My latest book 'The Grassroots Guide to Primary ICT: Embedding the Basics and Beyond' will be published by Bloomsbury in 2013.
