MirandaNet Fellowship Profiles (MirandaNet Archive - as of March 2015)
I am passionate about the difference technology can make for learners with special educational needs and in promoting inclusive education. With over 20 years of experience in ICT, special needs and inclusion policy and practice, I have contributed to many specialist assistive technology projects, and to major national initiatives.
As an independent consultant I provide services to the public, commercial, and voluntary sector, both in the UK and abroad, supporting organisations in creating development strategies, e-learning resources, as well as researching, presenting and writing on a range of topics. In Europe I have supported a number of projects incuding as expert adviser/researcher on the ICT for Inclusion project for the European Agency for Education Special Needs and Inclusion and European Schoolnet's The Survey of schools: ICT in education and SENnet project. Further afield I delivered a training workshop on inclusive ICT practice for UNESCO and Unicef in Armenia.
Communication is a fundamental human right, and technology is essential for many people to exercise that right. Which is why I support the work of both Deafax, a charity which works to empower deaf people through new technology and training opportunities (as their Chairman), and the ACE Centre, which supports children who need technology to communicate (as a Director/Trustee).
