Personal Statement

Personal Statement

My main interests are in Further, Higher and Adult Education and particularly in lifelong learning. From a background in news and factual programmes I spent ten years as a director and producer in BBC Learning making educative programmes for a general adult audience before becoming a freelance independent producer.

My particular professional interest is in the use of television and video within online learning and in the development of relevant skills by practitioners. I believe that the moving image has enormous educational potential and have written practical articles about realising this. Having worked on and been responsible for several high profile online learning projects with a significant televisual content I'm currently focussing on the potential of well-produced video within MOOCs.

Beyond my day job I've been an F.E. governor and Chair of Corporation of a large F.E. College and have also chaired a small educational charity whose aim was to develop and promote e-learning within the community.
