Personal Statement

ICT in teaching, an endless world of possibilities to explore!

I work for Beaconhouse School System in Pakistan and teach Early Years. Recently my branch has been selected for a new ICT based programme which is called Enhanced Learning Environment (ELE). Under this new initiative each Early year's classroom has been equipped with a technology resources such as All in PC, Tablets, Multi Media Unit, headphones, webcam, speakers, digital camera and an Interactive Whiteboard in the resource room. Using technology to meaningfully integrate into teaching and using it effectively to cater to all learning styles is a challenging task. I wish to join forums where I can interact with teachers who are facing the same issues and looking for advise and opinions regarding the use of ICT in teaching and learning. I found some very interesting threads on this forum and I wish to join in order to develop a better insight into teaching with technology. Furthermore I found a lot of group members from my institution as well as from other institutions who are quite active in replying to the queries. I feel I can benefit a lot and grow professionally by being a part of this wonderful forum that supports the use of technology in teaching.

ICT Interests

This has been my first year of teaching with technology in my classroom. Having to use technology on a daily basis and looking for online resources for developing my lesson plans has really benefited me by improving my ICT skills. I have become more tech savvy as with experience I'm developing a better insight about how important it is to evaluate the ICT resources before integrating them into lessons. With a digitally enhanced classroom I strive to integrate all the available resources in my classroom for a better ICT integrated learning environment. Working with learners who are just aged 3.6 years I really have to be innovative while planning my lessons as the ICT has to embedded with ample opportunities to provide them hands on experience as well.

Recent Projects

I have also been selected for a pilot project about evaluating a new ICT resource 'Agnitus' by my institution about its suitability for integrating it into lessons for Early Years. This is an application which has more than 100 applications  that cater to different skills. The best part about this application is that a student's account can be created and his/her progress can be recorded. The application generates an automatic report with comments as the learner completes one skill and even allows an opportunity to the learner by adjusting to an easy level if the learner is unable to complete that skill. The teacher can also use the report for formative assessment record and even e-mail it to the parents!!
