Personal Statement
I am a Senior Lecturer at De Montfort University in Leicester and mainly involved in teaching training on our MA in English Language Teaching (ELT). This programme is aimed at present and future teachers of English as a Second Language.
As a tutor on the MA, I design and deliver several modules. One such module is concerned with the use of technology in ELT and particularly the practical applications of software within the field of English language teaching. My students have to design a website with the dual aim of offering activities for learners of English and also commenting on the use of technology for teachers of English as a Second Language. Most of my students have had no prior experience of using ICT for learning or teaching languages and my main aim is to get them to become enthusiastic without losing sight of the pedagogy and the needs of learners - they sometimes become too enthusiastic!
I also suggest learning software that we can purchase for our department so always interested in what works without costing the earth.
