Personal Statement

Personal Statement

I am relatively new to the teaching profession, having finished my NQT year in April 2014. Before this I was a football coach. I am interested in most areas of education but particularly the psychosocial aspects and how developments in technology are changing behaviours and the way society interacts. Naturally curious, I enjoy analysing and exploring learning, especially when the world around us and accepted norms change so rapidly. Recently I undertook some action research with my Year 6 class, which involved filming myself to use as an extra aid in the classroom to help learners, with a focus on how they used the videos to aid learning and the reasoning behind their choices. The whole experience was really inspiring and I learned a lot from the process, so much so that I now think of researching everything! Whilst it’s good to adapt to the environment around us, I am a little cautious about overusing technology in classrooms; I feel technology should enhance what is already available, adding value to learning, or offer something that is not already existing.
