Personal Statement


Personal Statement

I believe the use of technology to support teaching and learning in order to raise educational achievement is clearly important in the 21st Century. ICT will increasingly facilitate personalisation and students’ ability to become independent learners. As educators we must try to ensure we capture the imagination of students in ways that appreciate the difference between education and entertainment yet connect learners in ‘stimulating contexts’ to difficult concepts delivered in personal, relevant and differentiated ways. I feel that MirandNet is at the forefront of involvement in innovation in the application of technology in education and that is why I have joined.

It is essential to prepare young people for the ever-changing future of which they will be a part. Young people need to feel motivated and also prepared for the challenges that face them when they leave formal education. The only certain thing about the future is that it will be uncertain, therefore we need to be innovative and creative to ensure we provide learners with the best experience possible, ICT has an important part to play. I have played a key role in providing strategic direction and have been fortunate to be involved in and lead initiatives consistent with this view of education for the future, including Professor Stephen Heppell. I am committed to education for a technological world.
