Personal Statement

The Cornwallis School (along with the Millennium Primary School in Greenwich) features in a Case Study published by Microsoft. There is a video presentation and a Word description.

Currently working as ICT Project Manager and NOF Trainer at The Cornwallis School. Also an AST and an Associate Subject Tutor training PGCE IT students for Canterbury Crhrist Church University College. Have been working 20+ years as a teacher with a variety of IT based platforms. Previous experience includes IT Co-ordinator, Systems Manager, managing networks and cabling installations, training staff, managing Key stage 3 and 4, GCSE IT, A level IT and GNVQ IT.

ICT Interests

Experience includes all the standard 'run of the mill' IT stuff/gear taught and used in all secondary UK schools. BUT wireless networking and laptops out perform it all. The effects this technology has on teaching in the classroom throughout the curriculum is incredible. Internet access anywhere, at anytime, software used in creative ways, unusual packages such as Flash 5, change the dynamics within the classrooms.

Experimenting with whiteboards and video conferencing and using ICT to improve levels of achievement. I'm particularly interested in empowering children to be independent, self-motivated learners through using ICT.

Recent Projects

I'm currently working on The Virtual Classroom and raising standards of achievement. These include the links between home-school via the Internet and extending children's learning into the home. Parents supporting their children's learning via the Internet. My lessons and homeworks are published on a weekly basis on my web pages. Students use these in the classroom and at home, 95% have Internet access. Yr 13 students I who are currently loaned a laptop on a permanent basis e-mail their work to me which I mark electronically. I'm experimenting with ways to do this.

I have an e-mentoring project working with It students in a Swedish school and Year 13 GNVQ IT students. Many lessons involve video conferencing to enhance learning. The project still in it's infancy. A number of Year 13 students are involved in a project with me with a local Primary school, acting as peer mentors to cascade ICT skills down through the school starting in year 5.
